Over 1,000 young people charged in Denmark for sharing sex film

Police in Denmark have charged 1,004 young people for sharing video clips of two 15-year-olds having sex, following a tip-off from Facebook.

They said it could constitute distribution of child pornography, even though the age of consent in Denmark is 15.

The two video clips were shared through Facebook's Messenger chat platform and the company advised US authorities about it, as it is obliged to.

The tip-off was then passed on to Denmark via Interpol.

The case involves around 800 males and 200 females, most of them between the ages of 15 and 20.

Most of the young people charged have only shared the videos a few times, whereas some have shared them several hundred times, police said.

They added that, if found guilty, the suspects will likely receive a fine or a 20-day suspended sentence, both of which would give them a criminal record lasting up to ten years.
